for ef action english, the knowledge stage takes place in the classroom, as students build up their base-knowledge of english. students spend their time actively communicating with each other and are encouraged to try out new things, with the teacher there to guide them through. with ef action learning, students make presentations about tasks outside of the classroom. but it doesn’t stop there. as students work through the ef pathway, their learning continues outside the classroom during their activities and non-class time. with ef action learning, students make the most of being in an english speaking environment by getting out there and using the language in real-world situations.

in the practice stage of the ef pathway, students are set weekly tasks, which build upon the language they use in class which build upon languages they use in class. they do these tasks outside, on their own or with international friends. in the ef global village, a member of ef staff is never far away to offer a helping hand. in the third stage project, students work together to record their experiences and to immerse themselves in english. the finished project can take the form of a newsletter, a scrapbook or even a video or slideshow. students present their project to their classmates with a presentation, reflecting on what they have learned.

the ef passport to learn is central to the ef action learning method. students use it to record their progress and achievements through out the course, but it also acts as a guide to help students understand their level, to try out new things and to prove what they can do. the passport ahs ‘can do’ statements related to the common european framework for reference which acts as mini tasks for the students to do outside class. students can try out the tasks for themselves and, if they are successful, receive a stamp in their ef passport to learn. at the end of their course, students take the prestigious efcelt, or ef cambridge english level test which describes students’ level in terms of the common european framework for reference. with their completed passports to learn, this forms the results stage.
