when it comes to the controversy that whether students should spend a year to travel or to work before entering universities and colleges, most of the interviewees oppose, considering that students should seriously study fundamental knowledge in the classroom. different people hold different opinions. to learn things that cannot be taught or gained in room or seminar study, others are willing to enjoy this ”gap year”. i agree with the latter one.

firstly, when an adolescent is in the age to enter a university or a college, he has been at school for at least 12 years, which equals to one six or one seven of his life span. it is basic theoretical knowledge and practical social experience that makes a student own the capability to live in the world. so, we should emphasize not only on classroom study, but also learning from working experience. for instance, i have a sister called xue yulin, who is a phd in beijing university. faced the problem of getting a job, yulin is confused. some international enterprises refused her for she doesn’t have any experience in the society. yulin is a hard-working and independent woman with strong persistent power. after graduating from university, she is recommended to enter beijing university for graduate and doctor study. but in fact, she did not have any practical experience in the modern society, which is fatal for a woman who is facing the problem of job application. hence, we can come to a conclusion that social experience like working in a company plays a vital role.

moreover, one can learn the true ritual of cooperation and skills of communicating with different individual character through social experience like having a long-term trip. for instance, people of different states have various customs or conventions, which can be a unique connection of cooperation. i’m familiar of beijing and tokyo’s living style, but i am like a pupil without any practical information about how people in shanghai lives, which make me nervous when acting as a guide of shanghai clients. if i had a long-term of journey to shanghai, i should be an optimal assistant to these very important persons. luckily, a month of travel in beijing acquaint me of local characteristics and custom, which makes me outstanding when doing a planning project with my beijing’s peers. we eventually completed the project in high-efficiency. hence, a long-term trip is beneficial and indispensable.

finally, a student who has just graduated from high school should experience the gap year to use promotion. they are in a society developing in a surprisingly high speed. they will be an independent adult. this special gap year will enable them to be a perfect society person.
