剑桥词典官方近日发布了2011年度单词查询次数统计，dictionary(词典)一词本身高居热词榜首。细心的学习者们发现上榜的大多是常见词汇中的多义词，而上词典来“找爱”、“找经验”的人也不在少数。
然而最令人大跌眼镜的莫过于排在第三位的“eat your heart out”。作为上榜的唯一短语，既不常见又不多义更不会有人求的它如一朵奇葩雷倒了词典编者。对于它上榜的原因，剑桥词典表示可能是因为美剧《欢乐合唱团(glee)》中出现过一句“eat your heart out, kate middleton!”。
仅仅这样似乎并不能解释这怪物“走红”的原因，但无论如何，如果你现在还不知道“eat your heart out”的意思，恐怕就真的out了！
eat one's heart out的意思是“让人伤心欲绝”，而eat your heart out后面一般会跟人名，用调侃的语气表示自己比那个人更好。“eat your heart out, xxx!”或许可以译成“xxx！你就羡慕嫉妒恨去吧！”
词典中的官方解释：“if someone says eat your heart out followed by the name of a famous person, they are joking that they are even better than that person”
